There has been a lot of controversy over the meaning of a head wrap. One thing most of us know about them is that they’re beautiful. Still, there are some women who are burden down with the belief that they have to wear it all the time, everywhere, 24/7. Again, head wraps are beautiful, but whether a woman chooses to wear one for prayer, worship, or for submissive reasons, is optional.
A head wrap is a scarf or a piece of cloth cut from material a person wraps around their head. You may notice them in many Hamite, or African cultures beside our very own.
“But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Messiah; and the head
of the Woman Is the man; and the head of messiah is Yah. – 1Corinthians 11:3
The head is symbolic of authority. When a person is the head of a company or corporation, they are the head of that company or corporation. In the movie “Soul Food, the writer didn’t have to say much for us to understand that Big Mama had authority over the family because she sat at the Head of her dinner table. When a woman makes x amount of dollars in this American society, she is recognized as the head of the household because America defines authority with who makes the most money. We must understand this first, that head is not said here as a literal human head, but is a symbology of authority. It is only when we understand this, that we can understand verse 3, so let us take this time now and replace head with authority.
“But I would have you know, that the authority of every man is Messiah; and the
authority of the Woman Is the man; and the authority of messiah is Yah.
“Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his
head. “ – 1Corinth 11:4
Now, with the understanding we have now that Head is to authority, we know that this scripture cannot be talking about a mans hair. On the other hand, if we believe that verse 3 is talking about a man or woman’s literal head with mouth eyes, nose; then we will believe that this next verse is referring to hair. Now you understand why we had to start at verse 3 and understand it, if our foundation is built on sand, then our entire understanding too, will be built on sand. So let’s lay some concrete….
This verse, says that any man with his head covered, so if we take head which is to authority, we can say that this script is saying, any man with his authority covered. So what does Yah mean authority covered? To cover is to lay or spread something over, to conceal or hide. If a man is concealing or hiding his authority behind a woman, by submitting to her, he is covering his head. And therefore he brings shame to his head or authority because he is now out of the order of Yah. How is he out of the authority of Yah? Because Yah says that man should rule over woman as stated to eve in the garden. (Genesis 3:16.)
So, 1Co 11:4 every man praying or prophesying, having his authority concealed, brings shame to his authority.
“But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered
Dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.” – 1Cor 11:5
Again, remember that head is to authority as covered is to concealed:
The opposite of to cover, is to reveal. So, to uncover or reveal ones head or to reveal ones authority for a woman, brings shame to her head or authority because she has no male authority, head, or protection over her (i.e., husband, teacher, brother) Understand that these verses are not speaking of a physical head wrap, Yah is not saying that a woman has to pray and worship with a physical head covering, but a spiritual one.
“But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her authority uncovered
Dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
“For if a woman is not covered let her also be shorn. But if it is a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered.” -1Corinth 11:5-6
To be shaved bald is symbolic of morning and shame, in a lot of cultures the men and women
shave their head bald to morn the dead. You may have noticed Steve Harvey shaved his head
after the death of Bernie Mack. So if a woman doesn’t have a husband, father, teacher, a man
of authority over her, and that woman is speaking the word with no male covering, it’s as if
she’s mourning; it is shameful. This scripture doesn’t mean Yah has something against having
short hair. Although I think it’s beautiful to have a head full of hair.
These scripts validates that if a woman is not covered with the authority of a man of Yah
then she is shamed or shaved, not shaved bald, but she brings shame to her, and if it is a
shame, then let her be covered. (Again, Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Cousin or
organization of brothers can also cover her.)
But why? Why must women have some level of protection, head, or authority over them?
“For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.” –
1Corith 11:10
According to this verse the woman is to have power or a covering over her head because of the
Angels. What angels?
“And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and
daughters were born unto them,
That the sons of Yah saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took
Them wives of all which they chose.” – Gen 6:1-2
The sons of Yah were not human men or sons, but angels who had come down and began to
marry human women. This is why Yah was angry with the people and as a result, gave them a
time limit to repent before the great flood:
“And Yah said, my spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his
days shall be an hundred and twenty years.” –Gen 6:3
This verse couldn’t be speaking of human men marrying human women because Yah says he who has found a wife receives favor from him (Prov. 18:22), but for a son of Yah (angel) to marry a human woman is an abomination.
“There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons
of Yah came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same
became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.” –Gen 6:4
Here the sons of Yah, or angels, came into (had sex with) the daughters of men (human
women) and as a result they bore giants. This is another major reason Yah brought the
great flood, to wipe away the abominations of the earth (homosexuality, angel and
human relations and other sins)
So when Yah says: “For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head
Because of the angels.” – 1Corith 11:10
It’s because women are still the target of these angels. Yah says that our day will be as the days
of Noah, where these angels will again take women and giants will once again walk upon the
earth:
“But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
“For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark…” –Matt 24:37-38
Again, Yah is not against men marrying or given into marriage; he is however, against angels marrying human women and human men giving their daughters over to the giants. Many people neglect to speak about this age in scripture concerning the giants but it’s important to our understanding because it WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. Scripture says that 1 day to Yah is a thousand years; therefore we are still in that same generation. In our eyesight the messiah was persecuted 2,000 years ago but in the eyesight of Yah it was but two days ago. Again, 1 day to us is 1,000 years to Yah:
“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with Yah as a
Thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” – 2Peter 3:8
“For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head
Because of the angels.” – 1Corith 11:10
Let’s ask ourselves, if this was speaking of a physical covering, what kind of protection does a
physical head wrap provide? A lot of times we read one verse without going further, this causes
confusion. If I read verses 4,5,6, & 7 alone, sure I would think, physical covering. But if I read
from 1 and keep going, a physical covering will not fit the context. It will not make any sense.
1Co 11:7 For a man indeed should not cover his head, since he is the likeness and esteem of
Yah, but woman is the esteem of man.
Again, a man not covering his head does not mean that he cannot wear head
wraps because men wear head wraps too, of course not a woman’s head wrap, but
a wrap made for men. Should not cover his head is not to cover his authority by having a
woman over him. She, woman, is not the head of man but the man is the head of woman.
“For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man.”
“Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.”
“Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man in Yah.” -1Corinth 11:8-9, 11
“For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of Yah.”
1Corinth 11:12
Head wraps are beautiful; I wear them all the time. Especially because they’re cultural, and
tend to set its wearer apart. Head wraps are beautiful and can be worn during prayer, worship,
or whenever the woman may choose. But one must understand that this PHYSICAL wrap is NOT
MANDATORY. One must understand that scripture is speaking of this head or authority in the
SPIRITUAL. A lot of times we miss-interpret what Yah requires of us because of our
unwillingness to think past anything fleshly.
I want to go a bit further in explaining a few more scripts that are also controversial in Israel as
it pertains to the woman.
Another controversial topic is that women cannot wear braided hair.
1Ti 2:9 Likewise, that the women dress themselves becomingly, with decency and sensibleness, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly garments,
1Ti 2:10 but with good works, which is becoming for women undertaking worship of Yah.
What this scripture means is not to focus on the outer beauty; not that you cannot wear braids, but not to focus on your outer beauty. Don’t spend more time and money on hair and nails then you do serving Yah and caring for your family. Don’t run to get $100 Jordan’s every Saturday when you should be praising Yah on the Sabbath. Don’t let materialistic consume you because in the end, what does it all mean if you all dressed up and don’t have Yah? What does it profit a man to gain the whole world but loose his soul? I know Hebrews aren’t used to having anything, but why dress yourself up because you don’t have Yah? Why pluck out your eyes because they cannot see?
The other is that women cannot wear pants.
Deu 22:5 “A woman does not wear that which pertains to a man, nor does a man put on a woman’s garment, for whoever does this is an abomination to Yah your mighty one.
This scripture does not mean a woman cannot wear pants. There are pants that are made for women. There are pants that are made for men. If a man put on a pair of woman’s jeans, it’s obvious he’s a homosexual. If a woman puts on pants that are made for men, it’s obvious she’s a lesbian. These are abominations. For Tyler Perry, Martin Lawrence, and every other actor to dress in a woman’s garment for laughs is an abomination. On the other hand, for women to wear pants or jeans made for women are NOT abominations; only to wear men’s pants is an abomination. To say this scripture means women can’t wear pants is like saying men can wear any kind of pants they like. (A man should not wear skinny jeans, those are pants made for women, it is an abomination.)
******************************************************************************
I pray that this has helped you in your search for truth, and that Yah has opened your mind to a better understanding of his word. It is important to understand what Yah requires of us, and that he will never give us more than we can bare. Men, however, will. It is men that lay heavy burdens on men’s shoulders and with their finger they do not wish to move them:
“For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.” –Matt 23:4
(To say that a woman have to wear a physical wrap everywhere she goes or every time she worships, that she can’t wear pants, that we can’t watch TV., iron, tear a piece of toilet paper, or cook for her babies on the Shabbat from which she didn’t have time to prepare, these are all heavy burdens and they imply that Yah’s mercy does not exist.)
Many people argue over whose truth is right and whose truth is wrong, but I think we should remember that truth can be found wherever there is a servant who is willing to hear it; however, only ONE truth that in which never changes. If truth is offered in one place, and there is also truth over at another place, if both are offering truth, I should be able to find the same truth because the truth never changes, Yah never changes. It is only man that changes. ONE ACCORD, ONE YAH, ONE MESSIAH, and ONE IMMERSING (BAPTISM)
